Unable to do Things

If you think of the archetypal witch a picture comes to mind of someone who is skilled in spells, divination, herbs, cooking, can craft anything that comes to mind and perfectly invoke a deity or do a ritual at a moment’s notice.

As we all know, the reality is very different. I’ve been a pagan for coming up to ten years now and I know about Irish deities, birth charts in astrology, ritual, cooking and trees. Anything else is subject to odd things I’ve picked up from the net or read, as we can’t know everything.

Some pagans I have met don’t do spells. So far I have always been told by the pagans themselves that the reason is they don’t have the talent to do spells and have tried and failed too many times. If you can’t do spells, you can always do rituals instead. There is also the option of doing offerings, sacrifices or promises to deities.

For all of us, there are things we can’t do. For example, I can’t scry. I’ve tried a couple of times and someone tried to teach me at a weekend meeting, but I couldn’t see anything. It doesn’t matter, as there are other ways to find things. I concentrate on the things I can do rather than the things I can’t. Since I can’t scry I use other forms of divination.

We all have talents in some areas and not others. Some people are great at spells, others are great at divination and others are great at making things. Some people have areas where they just cannot pick things up and scrying is one of mine.

Energy and Spellcasting

The beginner’s books you read never seem to mention that energy is the one element that is always needed for successful spellcasting.

I can normally pull energy from the environment without any trouble. If I do have trouble I put on every single electrical appliance (with the sound turned off) and stand barefoot.

I find that standing barefoot puts you in touch with the background energy of the place. You can contact it with shoes and socks on, but when I’m having trouble contacting it I stand barefoot.

Electrical appliances help because they are constantly emitting energy. Computers hum, lights emit light and so forth.

I know when I have pulled enough energy when I feel a tingle in my hands and behind my eyes, but this may be different for other practitioners.

Afterwards I always earth the energy by returning it to the ground, or to the floor I’m standing on.

Aspects of Astrology by Sue Tompkins

I bought this book when I was looking around a new astrology shop in Leighton Buzzard and the owner recommended it to me.

The book is extremely good. It discusses most of the aspects in a birth chart from the psychology angle : for example, if Saturn aspects X the person whose chart it’s in will have issues with father and authority and possibly the father was absent or missing.

It was mostly correct for my own birth chart and taught me a few things about myself that I didn’t know. I look forward to applying this book to my husband’s chart – if I ever get the time to do so!

Psychic Attack

Twice in my life I have caught myself thinking about doing things which are anathema to me and both times I have linked it to the same person. There was a long while between both incidents, but I did not realise that I was being psychically attacked until I read Dion Fortune’s book “Psychic Defence”.

The book was useful, but until reading The Witch of Forest Grove’s blog I did not realise that the jewellery that this person had given me was providing a link to them.

So I have now disposed of a pair of amber earrings and an amber bracelet to a charity shop. Even though as far as I know I have not been psychically attacked since I feel better and freer for getting rid of the jewellery and do not miss it.

The fact that I did not want to get rid of them before now worries me as I usually dispose of all my jewellery given to me when I break up with someone. I do wonder if there was more going on than I knew about. I was also worried when years ago, I destroyed all photos of myself and this person and the next day she turned up at the flat I was then renting. Thankfully these days she does not know where I live and I have not seen her in years.

I was fortunate in that I did not want to do the things I was being told to do, as when you realise this you break the command immediately. If the attacker had tried to get me to do something I wanted to do things would probably have been very different.

Odds n Ends

It’s been a long time since I wrote anything for this blog. This is because I was going to write up what I did at the Winter Solstice, then I fell ill with a diarrhoea bug and wasn’t well enough to look at a computer until a couple of days ago.

The Winter Solstice passed well, with my husband and myself making a libation to all the guardian trees around our area and our tribal tree. The libation was the last of my sloe gin. We returned home and ate some spicy biscuits I’d cooked for the festival.

I also managed to make a place for Eochaid in our car. Eochaid is the Irish deity of horses, so it makes sense he’d want a place in our car. My husband found a drawing on the net of a horse which was rearing up because of lightning. I copied it out onto a card which we’ve put in the car.
