Elder Rob

I’ve been making a folk remedy for coughs, colds and sore throats called Elder Rob. It’s made with elderberries, sugar and water into a syrup which I’ve been taking for the cold I have, which so far has resisted the doctor’s advice of paracetamol and vitamin C.

So far it’s working well, soothing my throat and decongesting me. I’m impressed and may well look into more folk remedies.

Hi, I find eyebright tea also very good for drying up a dripping nose – soothes the mucous membranes.

Sage Tea is helpful..I use Alvita…you could look at that and then make your own by using the type of sage they use. there is that scarytype thing about white sage for this and NOt poison yourself that…I feel like Mikey, I’m not gonna try it. Plus the teabags are simple to use. Kiddo’s college health center didn’t believe us at first, now they pass out enough of them for a few days, and wait for traditional meds. The kitchen now makes garlic stock–which holds therapeutic garlic doses for the ill students.

I’m in Britain and elder trees are abundant here, except for the Highlands of Scotland. It’s use what you have – and everyone has their own different cold remedies
